New Product Creation Processes

As part of the overall process of revitalising the Development Department  of a company it was identified that the existing New Product Creation procedures had become cumbersome and complex and contributed to the long lead times associated with New Product Creation. A new procedure was defined that:

a)  Was significantly simpler than the previous procedures

b)  Clearly identified the key deliverables, review points and activities needed

c)  Clarified roles and responsibilities in the New Product Creation process

The procedure was developed in conjunction with the other departments in the company which had a role in New Product Creation, e.g. Marketing, Service, Manufacturing, Finance, Purchasing & Logistics as well as Development.

The procedure was adopted across all projects and  helped reduce Development lead times by over 50%.
